Fortressian language, in the broadest sense, refers to all languages spoken within the Principality, with a more narrow definition being all those given some level of official sanction by the government. Currently, the Pillow Fortress has only one official language, that being a slightly modified form of American English. This "Fortressian English" differs in that it recognizes a twenty-eight letter alphabet, with the addition of ' and - as letters (in most cases both phonemically representing the glottal stop, and alphabetically located after Z). There were, in the distant past, plans for the creation and adoption of a constructed language for official use co-equal with that of Fortressian English, and to incorporate toki pona in some manner, though not as an official language, likely as an element of the K-12 curriculum. These efforts are moribund. It is now official state policy to slowly transition the Principality from a primarily English speaking country to a primarily Japanese speaking country by the year 50.

Fortressian English is also the official language of the Republic of the Serene Gate.
